Osam-Duodo begs Ghana to end 20 years of hurt

Ghana coach Fred Osam-Duodo has called on his players to end 20 years of misery by lifting the African Nations Cup.

Ghana drew 0-0 with Morocco in their opening game on Monday and Osam-Duodo said: "For a country so rich in football talent not to win the Nations Cup for two decades is a disaster.

"This has happened because past leaders of the football association made terrible mistakes.

"Among the blunders was toying with the technical directorate of the national teams. We won the Nations Cup four times because there was always a technical director to complement the efforts of the coach," he told Lagos newspaper This Day.

"We have also never prepared for the Nations Cup in the right atmosphere. Wranglings, personality clashes and a lack of funds have always crept up to set us back," he added.

Osam-Duodo took Ghana to the title in 1978. His team beat Uganda 2-0 in the final, then Ghana won the tournament in 1982, beating Libya in the final.
