The Olympic games in Rio is only 169 days away and Theophilus Wilson Edzie, President of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) has expressed his dissatisfaction towards how the sport is being perceived in the country.

In an exclusive interview with sportscrusader.com, the president said, "am very sad because of the way Ghanaians look at the Olympic games, however, it is an investment for the various sporting disciplines – thus you must work towards getting a medal”.

The President also emphasized the need for various associations to plan towards making an impact in the world stage but not only to participate and come back empty handed. This could lead to the reluctance on the part of government into allocating funds to fund various qualifiers.

He also added, “the challenges confronting the various associations is getting sponsorship deals as assistance from government with regards to their various qualifiers that are currently ongoing is not forth coming. He entreated all the associations to think ‘outside the box’ in order for them to hold their grounds as an association.
