Olympic Medallist interacts with School Children at Dodowa

Dodowa, March 9, GNA - Four-time Olympic Speed Skating Medallist, Johann Olav Koss has called on Ghanaians to offer the necessary support to children to enable them develop their talents in both academic and sports. Mr Koss expressed regret that children who are the future leaders were sometimes neglected and made to suffer all forms of abuses and deprivation. The Olympian, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Right To Play, an athlete-driven organization that uses sports and play to develop the talents of children, was interacting with school children drawn from the Dangme West District on Right To Play Modules at Dodowa on Monday. Some of the modules are 'Live Safe, Play Safe', Don't Trust Your Eyes', 'Pick the Ball' and 'Red Ball Child Play'. The modules are used by the organization to educate children on the need to lead healthy lives.

Mr Koss who is in the country to acquaint himself with the activities of Right To Play, expressed happiness with the trend of events so far of the organization and was hopeful that the children would take the lessons seriously and grow to become useful citizens. Mrs Freda Kuasi, Dangme West District Director of Education in an address read on her behalf said play and recreation was an integral part to nurture children for the future.

She said it also contributes to the socio-economic well-being of the children and gives them the exposure that would help them to develop competency to be better placed to face the future. Mrs Kuasi praised the organization for training about 2,867 children in the District and expressed the hope that more children would be trained in the near future. 09 March 10
