Sunyani, (B/A) May 02, GNA - Members of the Brong-Ahafo and Ashanti Regional Old Football Associations have presented cash of GHC1,200.00 to Kofi Num, a retired footballer of Sunyani-based B.A. United at a brief ceremony at the Coronation Park in Sunyani at the weekend.

Num, now an amputee due to a motorcycle accident in Sunyani in August, 2010 received the donation at a ceremony soon after a special friendly soccer match between the oldies from the two regions on May Day which ended 1-1.

The presence of Kwasi Owusu, onetime captain of the senior national team, Black Stars in the Brong Ahafo side could not neutralize the performance of the Ashanti team.

The visiting team, however, lacked scoring punch even in front of goal with goalkeeper Usman Iddrisu of the Brong-Ahafo team making several saves to aid his side from defeat.

Isaac Essiam, leader of the Ashanti Regional Association who spoke on behalf of the two Regional Old Footballers Associations, said his colleagues last year received the unfortunate news about Num with great shock and since then 93some of us started finding an avenue to come to the aid of our brother former footballer". He said they promptly consulted the executive members of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Association who also supported the idea for a fund-raising contribution in aid of Num.

Mr Essiam expressed the hope that the donation would help Num to purchase a limb to replace the clutches he was using to enhance his movements.

He advised Num not to worry too much over his plight but to consider it as part of human life, adding that members of the two regional Associations would not turn their back to him and would continue to assist him spiritually, in cash and in kind. A spokesperson of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Oldies later in an interview with GNA Sports expressed gratitude to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, who contributed GHC500.00 towards the donation to Num.

Num expressed appreciation for the 93brotherly love" shown by his colleagues. "The gathering here today is enough to tell me and my family that some 91Good Samaritans' are ever-ready to help lessen my plight at least for the rest of my life in this world", he said. He prayed for long life and prosperity for all those who took part in the fund-raising exercise and wished God would shower His blessings on his benefactors.
