Okine takes second try at Commonwealth title

Accra, July 26, GNA - Joshua Okine, popularly known in boxing circles as "Bukom Tsatsu" would in the middle of August have a second try at the Commonwealth Welterweight Title against a Nigerian opponent, Fatia Onikeke.

The fight is scheduled to place in Nigeria and Ray Obodering, the Promoter of the proposed fight in Nigeria is said to be working towards the actual date for the showdown.

Okine, earlier this year failed to grab the same title when his Ghanaian opponent, Osmanu Yahaya out pointed him to win the title at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The title, however, became vacant after Yahaya moved up in the weight division last month after relinquishing the welterweight title and went ahead to win another Commonwealth title in the Super Welterweight Division.

Okine, the number one contender on the local scene in the current Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) ratings, is expected to use the second opportunity to restore his image, which was badly damaged when he lost to Yahaya.

The camps of the two boxers are currently locked up in negotiations and arrangement over the fight, which is expected to attract high patronage in the West African country.

The Ghanaian boxer is expected to leave the country early next month for Nigeria in preparation for the fight and he has vowed to make amends at his second attempt at capturing an international title this year.
