The official draw for the beckoning 11th Edition of the Total 2018 African Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON) slated for November 17th to December 1st in Ghana has been held at the Movënpic Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
The colorful ceremony saw Ghana, the host nations paired alongside Africa's heavyweight Cameroon, Algeria and Mali, constituting group A.
Current holders Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Zambia makes up group B.
Chairperson for the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Freda Prempeh expressed gratitude on behalf of Government to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) under Mr. Ahmad Ahmad's stewardship for the opportunity to host seven African countries in this year's event.
She disclosed that, two years ago Ghana was awarded the rights to host the 11th edition of the Total Women’s Cup of Nations for the very first time in the country's history stressing that Ghana is ready to showcase the finest of African Women Football to the world.
Hon. Prempeh said the Women's football spectacle to be staged in Ghana next month promises to be an exciting tournament adding that the Accra and Cape-Coast Sports stadia will host the participating teams. She reiterated that the Local Organization Committee (LOC) is working closely with CAF and other major stakeholders to ensure Ghana hosts a successful and memorable footballing event.
Present at the ceremony was the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, his deputy, Hon. Perry Curtis Okudzeto, President of CAF, Dr. Ahmad Ahmad, Hon. Elizabeth Sackey, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, representatives of the participating teams, President and Members of the Normalization Committee for the Ghana Football Association and officials of the LOC and VLOCs.
