Official: Kotoko sack Zachariassen over poor performance

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have confirmed that they have parted company with Norwegian coach Kjetil Zachariassen.

In a statement signed by its CEO, George Amoako, the club said it arrived at the decision due to Zachariassen’s failure to achieve the targets stipulated in his contract.

“This is a final decision and is not sub.iect to review. If you will recall, Clause 7 of 1'our Ernployn'rent Contract set performance targets for,vou which included but not limited to the Club reaching at least the gror:p stages of the Champions' League and the Conlbderations' Cup Competition, u-hich w'ere set out parlicularly in sub clause 7.1.1.1 and 7. I .5 respectively.

Therefore pursuant to Clause 12, specifically sub clauses12.4.and 12.4.1u-hich states that "The Club ma1, terminate the Head Coach's employment without compensation and without prior notice u,'here the Head Coach is: Unable to meet any of the targets stated in Clause 7 herein." We are by this Clause terminating your appointment effective the aforementioned date. Kotoko also declared that it will pay the Norwegian’s salary for the month of October. The announcement brings an end to speculations surrounding the coach’s future following their exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. A to 2-0 to Ivorian San Pedro FC which brought an end to their journey in this season’s CAF inter-club competitions.

Disagreement over severance package

Kotoko’s decision to fire Zachariassen has been necessitated by disagreements between the club and the coach over his send-off package.

Kotoko, in a meeting with the coach on Tuesday, impressed on him to resign and walk away with a severance package of $5,000. Zachariassen is said to have demanded $10,000 which is a 50% increment on the offer being tabled by the club.

Kotoko thus were left with no option but to fire the coach who was hired to replace CK Akunnor.

Kjetil Zachariassen observed seven games as coach during his Kotoko tenure, won three and lost four.
