Numbu United F.C. withdraws from League

Wa, Oct. 18, GNA - Numbu United, a Wa based Football Club has withdrawn from the Division One League in protest against what it termed as unfair treatment by officials who handle their matches.

Mr Bomison Issah Hamidu, Chairman of the Club, in an interview with the GNA Sports in Wa on Tuesday said the Club was formed to promote the development of soccer in the Wa Municipality and the Upper West Region.

The Chairman however, alleged that there were conscious efforts by some officials who handled the Club's matches and some people in high places to undermine the growth of the Club with an aim of ensuring its demise. Mr Hamidu cited the Club's recent Zone One "B" league clash against All Stars, another Wa-based Football Club, as

one of the clear examples of hostility towards his team. He said during that match, the Referee, Alhassan Alhassan from Tamale sent off two of the most potent players of the Club and booked six others for committing very doubtful offences.

This, he said, weakened the team and that enabled their opponents to secure an undeserved victory with a late goal, which almost sparked confusion and mayhem after the match.

Mr Hamidu also alleged that the same referee had acted in a similar manner when he was the Assistant Referee in their two previous games against Nsoatre F.C. and Brong Ahafo United.

"Once some people have an agenda to destroy and kill the Club, in the interest of peace we think it is better we do not waste our time and resources participating in the league".

Asked as to what happens to the player body, Mr Bomison said the players are free to join any club of

their choice. Numbu United was formed in 2002 as a Division Two

Football club and gained promotion to the First Division

during the same season.
