Ex-Ghana Football Association Vice President George Afriyie has praised the performance of the GFA Normalisation Committee and insisted the four-member team have performed creditably.

The 50-year-old renowned administrator has sharply dismissed criticisms of the works of the FIFA appointees, insisting its early days yet.

FIFA installed the four-member committee in Ghana in September with specific mandates to run the Ghana FA’s daily affairs and cooperate with the special task force once it has been set up by FIFA, CAF and the Government of Ghana.

The committee has faced harsh criticism from certain members of the erstwhile GFA administration led by disgraced former President Kwesi Nyantakyi and apparatchiks of persons seeking to lead the Ghana FA.

But, Afriyie has sharply disagreed and insisted the committee is performing within its mandate and described as baseless the criticism being meted out.

“To be very honest with you the mandate was very clear. That is to see to the day-to-day running of football in this country. If you ask me on whether they’re doing it, the answer is yes. The Women’s AFCON is currently underway and the Maidens participated in the U17 World Cup in Uruguay. The CHAN team has also participated in a game. So it means that their mandate to run football on day to day basis they’re doing it,” he told Kumasi-based Kessben FM.

“On the concerns about the reviews of the statues of the FA, the committee might be working silently on it. December will be their third month, meaning they still have three more months. So I would advocate for us to take the pressure off them,” he added.

Afriyie remains a huge favourite to become the next Ghana FA President.
