Nkegbe eyes gold at Tokyo 2020

Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe – the nation’s most experienced Paralympian, has set his eyes on a gold medal, at the 2020 Parlympic Games in Tokyo, Japan after securing qualification.

According to Nkegbe, having been to four Paralympic Games, he was confident of picking a medal for Ghana this time adding that, he had gathered enough experience to break into the medal zone of the competition.

Nkegbe, the second Ghanaian to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, achieved this at World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Arizona, United States of America (USA).

Botsyo hit the qualification time of 14:22sec in the T54 category of the 100m race breaking his personal record of 14:62sec.

In an interview after his qualification to Tokyo as well as the World Championships, Botsyo ''I'm very delighted to get the required results for qualify for Tokyo.

“Now the target is prepare ahead of the World Championship and Tokyo, it's not going to be easy but with the support of my coach I hope everything will go well.

“The immediate target now is too target Ghana's first Paralympic medal at the All African games and I believe with good preparation I can achieve this feet,'' Bostyo said.

Nkegbe, was also grateful to Wire Weaving Industries Limited, Ghana Shooting Federation, National Paralympic Committee and the National Sports Authority, for giving him the needed assistance to help compete in dessert challenge.
