Nimobi FC to represent Ghana

in MTG United for Peace tourney in Sweden

Nimobi Ladies FC have won the local version of the 2013 MTG United for Peace tournament, and will represent Ghana at the international competition in Stockholm, Sweden in September 2013.

The all-girls event was held on Friday, 19th July 2013 at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra. Six teams participated in this year’s event: Right to Dream Academy, Cosmos Fair Ladies, Nimobi Ladies FC, St. Bernadette Ladies, Hill View Montessori Ladies and Advance Ladies.

The girls, who were between the ages of 12 and 14, were first taken through a warm-up session with the school of tolerance before the main competition kicked off.

Right to Dream Academy, who were champions in the 2011 edition and this year's favourite, failed to impress at the all-girls event this year.

Nimobi Ladies FC started off the competition with a 3-2 win over Right to Dream Academy, but were beaten 5-0 by Cosmos Fair Ladies. They however bounced back in the semi-finals to beat Advance Ladies 4-1, thereby qualifying for the finals.

It was a sweet revenge for the Nimobi Ladies FC as they managed to beat Cosmos Fair Ladies, whom they had suffered an earlier defeat to. Cosmos had to come back three times from behind but at the end of the day, it was Nimobi who triumphed with a 4:3 win. Advance Ladies managed to pull a third place and walked away with bronze medals and trophy. Cosmos Fair Ladies, although disappointed, managed to get silver medals and trophy, and a Fair Play award.

The winners, Nimobi Ladies FC, received medals and a trophy, and will get an all-expense paid trip to Sweden in September to compete with thirteen other teams from across the world.

The COO of Viasat1, Maame Arhin, congratulated the winners and urged them to go all out to win the international competition and bring the trophy home.

The United for Peace football tournament is held annually in all countries that MTG operates.

The central idea of MTG United for Peace is to prepare the generations of tomorrow for the global challenges ahead by building bridges between youth of different nationalities, ethnic origins and faith.

Viasat1 presenters and some celebrities were present to cheer the girls on. Among them were Joselyn Dumas, PY, Agnes Ntow, Kokui Serlomey and Patrice Amegashie. Paulina Oduro, Joseph Hanson, Hussein, DKB and David Oscar were also there.

The 2013 MTG UFP tournament – Ghana was supported by West Africa Rescue Association, Special Ice Mineral water, Nestle Ghana, Dewlands Fruit Juice and Cascade Water.
