Nigeria’s 1994 World Cup jersey was initially designed for Ghana - Ugbade reveals

Former Nigerian star Nduka Ugbade has revealed that the jersey that the country used for their maiden World Cup appearance in USA 1994 was specifically made for Ghana.

Ugbade mentioned that Adidas thought Ghana will qualify and made the design for the Black Stars but the 2-1 lost to Algeria in Tlemcen which ended the hopes of the four-time African champions made the German kit sponsors to alter the design for Nigeria.

“The iconic Jersey was initially designed by Adidas for Ghana for the “94 World Cup. “It’s a Kente design if you look at it well, they altered the design when we qualified and Ghana didn’t,” Ugbade told topmost striker in an interview.

Nigeria defeated Bulgaria as well as Greece and lost to Argentina as they reached the second round in their first attempt.
