Nigeria Suspects Ghana, As ...

....TV Sets, Fans Disappear from Games Village

Barley 72 hours after the curtains fell on the 8th All Africa Games, vandals have raided the Games Village carting away such items as television sets and ceiling fans.

Although it is not yet certain how the items were stolen from the 690-building estate put up to house athletes and officials during the two-week competition, the main suspects are the Ghanaian and Algerian contingents.

According to THISDAYSports checks, the most vandalised appeared to be the six flats occupied by Nigeria's West African neighbours where all the television sets and fans where completely removed. The pilfering was not as extensive in the quarters occupied by the athletes from the next host of the Games in 2007.

Although security is still tight at the sprawling estate, security personnel told THISDAYSports that they did not physically check the teams as they departed the Games Village after the games ended in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

During the event proper Games Organising officials (COJA) had a problem with the contingent from Mozambique who were asked to pay for the damage they did to all the locks of their accommodation.

It's not clear if in the end they did pay for the damage before they checked out of the complex.
