The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) introduced the Top 4 Tournament into the football Calendar of the Country.
The objective of the tournament is to keep clubs in the premiership busy in the off-season and improve their preparedness for up-coming competitions.
Additionally, the tournament is to help raise funds to meet GHALCA?S operating costs against the background of scarce sponsorship for sports in the counting.
In an address to launch the GHALCA Top 4 Tournament (GT4T), the deputy minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Joe Aggrey called for a change of attitude towards investment in Sport Sponsorship in Ghana.
Mr Aggrey appealed to all corporate bodies and other business concerns to invest in sports by providing meaningful sponsorship for sporting activities rather than the ?tokenism? approach.
Mr. Aggrey urged the management of GHALCA to seriously consider including leading clubs in the sub-region in the top 4 Tournament.
This, he said, will help improve the standard of football at club level while exposing the local talents as well as other brands of soccer for the benefit of football development in Ghana.
Mr. Kodzo Fianu is the chairman of GHALCA and the Top 4 clubs are Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak, Accra Great Olympics and Liberty Professionals.
