New SWAG executive endorsed

Accra, Jan. 10, GNA - The Board of Patrons of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has endorsed the election of the new Executive Committee of the Association.

The decision brings to an end the long standing dispute started by the out-going President, Mr Ebo Quansah(pictured) over the legality of the election held on December 9, 2006.

The Patrons arrived at the decision after a marathon meeting with the newly elected executives led Mr Ackah Anthony and the out-going team led by Mr Quansah.

Mr Amarkai Amartefio, a lawyer and a Patron who chaired the meeting communicated the decision of the Board to the two parties after hearing from both sides and the Electoral Commissioner, Harry Mouzalas. He contended that the meeting, which endorsed the election of the incoming executives and which was chaired by Mr Quansah, was properly conducted, hence the decision of the Board to accept the new executives as duly elected.

Consequently, a handing over ceremony has also been fixed by the Patrons for Friday, January 12, at Alisa Hotel, Ridge at 5:00 p. m. Mr Amartefio said all other related issues will be addressed on the day of the handing over.

He asked the old executives to prepare their handing over notes and other relevant documents to be presented to the incoming executives at the ceremony on Friday.

The Patron said the directive was to ensure a smooth transition to enable the Association to continue enjoying the goodwill it had received from the general public and the corporate world. The Patrons therefore urged Mr Quansah to accept the ruling in good faith to allow the Association to move forward and achieve its goal. Among the Patrons present at the meeting were Mr. Walter Exposito, Mr. Assad Mallah, Nana Oheneba Charles, Nene Azago Kwesaitsu II (MrE.T. Quarshie) Mr Ray Quarcoo and Mr Kwame Ofosu Bamfo (Sikkens). Members of both the old and new executives were present at the meeting.

The old executives included Ebo Quansah, Maurice Quansah, Rosaline Amoh, Nii Malle Adzeis and Ben Ohene Aryeh with Arkah Anthony, Richard Avornyotse, William Ezah, Veronica Commey, George Lawson and Emmanuel Amponsah representing the newly elected executives. Also in attendance were Agyemang Duah, Nana Ampomah and Peire Torto, senior members of the Association.
