National Unity Games to be rotated among regions

After hailing the success of the first national sports
festival in nearly a decade, the National Sports Authority say subsequent games
will be rotated among the regions of Ghana, ALL SPORTS understands.
National Sports Authority Board Chairman Kojo Bonsu has
exclusively told ALL SPORTS even though Accra abound in all sports facilities, the
idea of national unity will be meaningless should the games be maintained at
one location.
Hence, it will be rotated among the regions even though a
venue for next year of what is promised to be an annual event, has yet to be
chosen. “The Unity Games will rotate around Ghana. We cannot base it only in
Accra, it will not promote unity,” Mr. Bonsu said.
He added: “What we have to do is to build what we shall call
community stadiums in remote areas all over the country so that these community
stadiums will help promote sports in all areas of the country and we can also
have the unity games in all those places.”
Meanwhile, Hon. Emmanuel Adzei Anang, a member of the
Council of State, has cautioned authorities of the various sporting disciplines
to recruit deserving athletes for the various sports categories as they gear up
for September’s All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.
“Now that the Games are over, it is my hope that officials
of the various sports disciplines will be honest and transparent to select the
best and only the best sportsmen and women to represent the nation in the
upcoming All Africa Games.
“For we owe it as a responsibility to justify government’s
expenditure by doing well in Maputo,” Mr. Adzei Anang said in his remarks to
officially close the ten day championships.
