Nana Kobina Nketsia calls for Presidential debate on sports

The Omanhene of Essikado Thaditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V has called for the inclusion of sports in the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA)’s presidential debate towards the 2012 election.

“The importance of sports for development has made me wonder why it is boldly missing from the thematic areas of the IEA’s 2012 Presidential and Vice Presidential Debates towards the 2012 national elections”, he said.

Nana believes that considering the sporting talents with which the African continent was endowed with, the continent would become much more progressive and healthier in its attempt to develop.

Nana Kobina Nketsia V made these suggestions at the recently held Accra Sports Expo at College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Nana said it was important to ask how sports stand with regard to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.

“It is absolutely necessary that we ask our Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates for the 2012 Elections what they have in store for us as a people.

“We cannot continue the raw exportation of our natural resources. Do we want to continue exporting our sporting talents as we have been exporting our raw materials”, he questioned.
