Coach of the Black Queens Yussif Basigi is defending his job following the team’s exit from the qualifiers of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The Queens relinquished their lead thrice over two legs to lose out on a maiden qualification to the competition after drawing 2-2 with the Lionesses of Cameroon in Accra.

Basigi who is under pressure for poor performance after the team’s unimpressive spell at the last African Women Championship (AWC), and the qualifiers said that “To stay as the coach or not is at the discretion of the management.

“I was appointed to take charge of the team so it will be the discretion of the management. I am hungry to take the team forward because they have a future. My mission is not yet accomplished’’.

On the match, he said “It was a fairly balanced game. For me, my tactics worked but it was very disappointing. We scored and they equalized in all occasions and things did not happen as expected.

‘‘We did very well but unfortunately the results did not favor us. I am really disappointed and so is the team. We wanted to make history by qualifying for our first Olympic Games but it did not work out.

The Lionesses qualified to the last round of the 2016 Olympic Games qualification following a 3-3 aggregate score with the Black Queens after the reverse fixture of the penultimate qualifier ended two-all.

Basigi is expected to lead the team to the All Africa Games slated in September in Congo.
