My benevolence helped my career flourish - Former Black Stars defender Shilla Illiasu

Former Ghana international Shilla Illiasu Allhassan has stated that one major secret to having a successful career as a footballer was his benevolence.

The former Asante Kotoko defender enjoyed some good fortune on the field of play. He was one of 4 local-based players to make the final squad for Ghana’s first FIFA world cup appearance in 2006.

The player also enjoyed a very successful spell at King Faisal before his high profiled transfer to Asante Kotoko.

After faring very well at the world cup, some European clubs circled around him and when a move to Arsenal fell through he signed a very lucrative deal with Russian side Saturn FC.

Recounting all that has happened in his career, Shilla Illiasu told Asempa FM in an interview that offering help to the needy helped make his career blossom.

He said “What I can remember is that, I was very benevolent. It was not like I went to church or mosque.

“But if I noticed those around me were in difficulty, I came to their aid to out smiles on their face”.

For instance, if they were doing church or mosque projects, I would go and support if I felt the need.

So that’s what I can remember, I loved giving (and it helped my career).
