Like a female gondolier in Venice his goals are hard to come by, but the all-action Frenchman grabbed the rudder yesterday and scored for only the second time in his career, sailing in to head home the winner. Forte.

Put in a strong defensive shift and was also a regular menace down the left. Set up the opener when his screamer was pushed out for Santana to slot home. Also had a massive hand in the second. Energico.

The midfield ace directed the traffic just one way and worked overtime supplying the forwards. Came close to scoring with one long-range effort and a complete nuisance down the middle throughout the match. Scherzo.

Tested Stekelenburg on several occasions with one shot in particular asvicious as an armed guard on a Napoli garbage truck. Brought substance and a certain swagger to the midfield while both defending and attacking, with real zeal. Allegro.
