Mumuni Gamel is new Black Queens' coach

Accra, March 3, GNA - Head coach of the national female Under 21 team, the Black Princesses, Mumuni Gamel is the new coach of the Black Queens, the national female soccer Team A His elevation follows a reshuffle conducted by the Ghana Football Association at the weekend.

Coach Gamel, the former head coach of Premiership side, Real Tamale United will assume duty immediately and prepare the Queens for their return leg African Championship qualifier against Cote d'Ivoire on Sunday, March 9.

Mr Fred Crentsil, chairman of the Black Queens Management Committee, who announced the changes said it had become imperative to make changes in the technical direction of the team to inject new ideas into it and make it gel again.

He said the team had lately been underperforming, compelling him to make recommendations to the GFA Management Board to effect changes that would give the team a new impetus to live up to expectation.

The GFA said Gamel would be assisted by Ben Fokou, who had been the second in command to the new coach when they were in charge of the Black Princesses.

Meanwhile, the entire technical team of the Black Queens has been relieved of its responsibilities.

This means that assistant coach Dan Owusu and goalkeeper's trainer, Dora Zuta are now unemployed and must look elsewhere for new challenges.

After two previous appearances at the World Cup, the Black Queens put up their worst performance at their third appearance in China last year when they lost all three matches at the preliminary stage, conceding 15 goals and scoring only three with coach Paha in charge. The team, which was the second best in Africa only to the Super Falcons of Nigeria has since dipped in form, losing their flair and artistry, thus allowing minnows such as Cote d'Ivoire to pose serious threats to them.
