Multistix Win Volta Region Invitational Competition

Greater Accra Hockey Senior League leaders Multistix continued with their fine run of form by winning the Volta Regional Invitational tournament held in Ho.

Multi put up a spirited performance to beat their arch-rivals NDK Financiers in the first match of the 4–team competition. Multi competed at a relatively low strength comparatively to their opponents who fielded a full squad with predators Attipoe and Dupliex in attack and resolute Oko-Nikoi Dzani and Emmanuel Ahadji in defence.

Multi top scorer Eric ‘Dada’ Manu was a thorn in the flesh of the NDK defence and it was only a matter of time before he smashed the backboard with a fierce shot to give Multi the lead. NDK fought back and equalised after an avalanche of raids on the Multi goal area. Just as the match seemed to be heading for a deadlock and the possibility of a penalty stroke competition to determine the winner, Eric ‘Dada’ Manu stepped up to shake the roof of the NDK net with an absolute cracker leaving keeper Lucas Quaye in wonderland. Multi maintained their slim lead till the final whistle.

In the second match of the day, Citizens made light work of the Ho Hockey Club who they defeated 2-1. In the third place match, NDK beat Ho hockey club by the same margin.

The final match of the day was played between Multi and Citizens. Citizens pushed-off strongly and looked the more determined side to win. However, good organization at the rear marshalled by Richie Akpokavie, brave goalkeeping by Gavivina Tamakloe, a tight midfield controlled by Jesse Boakye and a ruthless attack spearheaded by Dada Manu were all Multi needed to clinch the championship with a 2-0 scoreline. Next on is the resumption of the Greater Accra IPMC Hockey league.
