Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso says he was surprised by the exclusion of Alfred Duncan from the Black Stars team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia.

Alfred Duncan who has been in and out of the squad for some time now was excluded from Coach Kwesi Appiah’s 30 man squad for both the AFCON qualifiers and the International friendlies with the United States and Mexico despite being in to form for club side Sassuolo in the Italian Serie A.

The former under-20 player has played 53 times and score two goals for Sassuolo since joining from Sampdoria.

Mubarak Wakaso who himself was dropped was speaking on Metro TV where he revealed his shock for the 24 year olds omission.

“I think everyone there deserves a call-up, every player has done well to get a call-up to the Black Stars team,” he told Metro TV.

“The only player am surprised not to see him in the team is Alfred Duncan, I think he was excellent for his team and played very well.

“I was expecting to see him, he is one player that I think should have been in the team but the technical team know best.”

The Black Stars are however preparing ahead of Sunday’s AFCON opener against Ethiopia.
