Mountain Climbing to go national

The Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) is considering making mountain climbing a national and international sporting event as way of promoting and diversifying tourism. Acting Deputy Director of the GTB Edwin Owusu-Mensah announced this during an inspection tour of the Kloyo Mount in the Damgme West District. He said the dream was conceived 13 years ago when the GTB decided to arry culture and travel.

He said the Board in collaboration with a marketing and Advertising company Ultimate Media Limited, will on July 1, this year organise the first ever National Kloyo Mountain Climbing competition. The event, which promises to be very exciting, amidst drumming, dancing and cultural displays, would draw Ghanaians from most regions especially those in the southern sector to participate.

According to Mr Owusu-Mensah, the rational is to create domestic tourism awareness, inculcate into Ghanaians the importance of maintaining physical fitness, help diversify tourism in the district and create employment for the local people.
