More education for road users - PRO of Cycling Federation

Road users need more education says Public relations officer of the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF). Dennis Kweku Moore believes it will help increase road safety in the country.

Ghana lost top cyclist and captain of the national team, Samuel Anim last year after being hit by a motorbike while training on the Aburi mountains. Speaking on Lets go, the spokesperson of the GCF has tasked the media and the motor transport and traffic unit of the Ghana police service to educate road users in observing the various road laws.

“The MTTU for me plays a major role in this education. The more they give education to cyclist on the road, I believe it can really go a long way to curb all these problems on our road” he said.

He added “Drivers will have to be more cautious and be educated to know that certainly the road is not only for drivers, but of course cyclist, pedestrians and all that”
Meanwhile,Technical Director of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Shabban Mohammed says the awareness of the sport has increased.

“Cycling at the moment, the awareness is great. Because now when you are cycling from Accra to Suhum, you have the awareness. We have lots of lawyers, lots of ministers are cycling on Saturdays and Sundays. So you can see that cycling is growing.”

Shabban however tasked drivers and pedestrian to help the growth of cycling.
“Honestly, cycling has become a major sports in the country. All said and done, we still need the drivers and all pedestrians to make sure that we all help the sports to grow.
