Kumasi, May 23, GNA - Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minister of Youth and Sports has donated sports kits made up 20 sets of footballs and jerseys worth several thousands of Ghana Cedis to 20 schools in his constituency in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The Minister who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, also donated 200 pieces of mathematical sets to the beneficiary schools. The beneficiary schools include Saint Theresa, Sepe-Timpom, Asokore-Mampong, Sakafiya Islamic, Adukrom, Methodist, Holy Spirit, Akorem, Abu Sadik and Nuriya Basic Schools.
The rest are Ghana Muslim Mission, School of Islamic Studies, Anwar el, Central Mosque, Abdul Samad, Buobaim M/A, Nasru-Deen, Darul Hadith, New Aboabo and Parkoso Basic Schools. Mr Joseph Boarle Salifu, Asawase Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who presented the items on behalf of the Minister, said they were bought from the MP's share of the District Assembly's Common Fund.
He explained that the donation forms part of moves by the MP to raise the standard of Sports and other recreation for the people in the constituency and urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the items. Mr. Paul Gyebi, Officer in-charge of the Asawase Circuit of the Ghana Education Service (GES), who received the items on behalf of the beneficiary schools, thanked the Minister for the gesture and hoped it would help most of the needy and deprived schools in the constituency to participate in sporting competitions in the area. 23 May 09
