Milo Summer Sports camp for children ends

Accra, Aug 29, GNA -- The maiden edition of Milo Summer Sports Camp for children drawn from over 40 Basic schools in the Accra Metropolis ended at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex over the weekend. In all over 300 children were taken through the rudiments of three hand games namely tennis, basketball and volleyball.

The programme designed for children between the ages of six and 12 years, was under the instructions of former captain of the Golden Rackets, David Churcher who handled tennis whilst Justice Ajaaso handled the handball event with Solomon Abeiku as the instructor for basketball. Former national tennis star, Frank Ofori and other players of the national volleyball and handball teams were also in attendance to assist the children through some of the lessons of the sports.

The camp which is designed to unearth talents in the three sporting disciplines saw the children also taken through series of academic exercises and entertainment, with lead instructor Churcher testing the general knowledge of the children.

The academic exercises of course was the most exciting part for the programme as the children participated with a lot of enthusiasm and determination in an effort to grab one of the prizes at stake. Popular hip-life artist, Sidney was also in attendance to thrill the children to some of his popular hit songs to climax the day. According to the organisers, the programme will be made an annual event in order to sustain the interest of the children in their chosen sport.

Nestle Ghana Limited, sponsors of the programme invested 500 millions cedis into the programme with support from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the National Sports Council (NSC) who provided logistical support for the two-week long event.
