Mensah wins Legon Scrabble Championship

Accra, March 21, GNA - Christian Mensah scored a possible spread of 683 to win the first Legon Open Scrabble Championship played at the University of Ghanan, Legon on Saturday. He was followed by C. M. Placca with 599 spread while Ralph Owusu took the third position with a spread of 301.

In the Students category, Abraham Assiam came first with a spread of 700, Edwin Sosu took the second position with 166 spread while Selorm Mensah placed third with 112 spread. About 22 players took part in the event which was co-sponsored by Demographix and Second Image.

Mr Kofi Sarfo, President of the Legon Scrabble Club told GNA Sports that the event was aimed at reviving the sport which was dying naturally. He said the revival of the sport would also help students improve upon their academic work in school. Mr Sarfo appealed to corporate bodies and institutions to support the Club in its developmental efforts to make the sport popular in the country especially at the school level.
