Medeama SC have firmly dismissed reports linking them with a move for Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil, insisting their full attention remains on chasing a historic domestic double.
Claims circulating in local media suggested that Medeama had reached an agreement with the defender and his representatives, Pro Sports, over a one-year deal.
Details of the supposed contract, including a $30,000 signing-on fee and a monthly salary of $4,000, were also widely reported. With O’Neil’s current deal at Kotoko nearing its end and no extension talks underway, the rumours quickly gathered momentum.
However, Medeama have moved swiftly to shut down the speculation. Chief Executive James Essilfie described the reports as entirely false, distancing the club from any negotiations involving the 26-year-old centre-back.

“It’s news to us. We’re also hearing these claims in the media. Let me put it on record that it’s not true. We don’t want to dignify it. We’re just focused on winning the double. I will urge our supporters to disregard these false reports and channel their energies into supporting the team to victory,” he told ghanasoccernet.
Medeama’s stance reflects a club determined to avoid distractions at a crucial stage of the season. They currently sit top of the Ghana Premier League table, holding a narrow two-point lead with five matches remaining.
In addition, they have reached the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup, keeping alive hopes of securing both major domestic honours for the first time in their history.
The timing of the reports had raised eyebrows, particularly given Medeama’s strong push for silverware and the potential of continental football next season, either in the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup.
