Medeama angrily rejects threat on Muntari's life

Ghanaian side Medeama have issued a strongly-worded statement to condemn a threat issued by one irate supporter Okodi on the life of suspended Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari.

Okodi, who is believed to be a staunch supporter of the Mauve and Yellows, issued the daring threat on Accra-based Happy FM on Wednesday morning.

He claimed angry fans of the club were bent on teaching the AC Milan star a lesson after he physically assaulted their club president Moses Armah during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

But the club has issued a statement to distance itself from the threat and says such barbaric attempt on the life of an individual will not be countenance.

“Our attention has been drawn to a publication on Ghana’s leading football website, Ghanasoccernet.com that one Okodi has threatened to organize supporters to beat Sulley Muntari when he shows up in Kumasi for Ghana’s 2015 AFCON qualifier against Uganda on Saturday, club spokesman Tony Nkrumah Boateng told the club’s official website.

“We condemn in no uncertain any attempt to link the club to such a barbaric and unguarded talk and want to distance ourselves from the purported threat.

“We find the comment as childish, unfortunate and ill-informed as the club does not endorse any form of threats that may lead to violence.

“Our club president Moses Armah is a highly-respected football administrator in Ghana and will not do anything to tarnish his hard won reputation.

“He’s had a cordial relationship with Muntari’s father since the incident happened and has therefore expressed shock on the threat on the life of Sulley Muntari.

“We firmly believe the appropriate authorities are making progress in resolving the unfortunate incident that occurred in Brazil, between our club president Moses Armah and Sulley Muntari.

Muntari has arrived in his native country to support the Black Stars despite his suspension from the national team.
