Match report: Kotoko steals vital away point

Berekum Chelsea and Asante kotoko played out a goalless and uneventful stalemate on a disappointing afternoon at the golden city park.
Zdravko Lugarosic’s Kotoko would have drawn level on points with leaders Aduana Stars with a second successive Premier League victory, but were subdued by a classic Raindorf Armah performance of defensive organisation and discipline.

Berekum Chelsea did not allow Kotoko to build the momentum and intensity that has characterised their first game of the season against Liberty Professionals, while Armah’s limited attacking ambitions ensured chances were at a premium.

Kotoko’s best chance of the game came in the second half, but the unmarked seth opare fialed to connect an Emmanuel Gyamfi cross from the right into the net.

It was cagey, rarely exciting, and wholly lacking in controversy – much to the relief of referee Ali Alhassan– but a point at golden city park is always a valuable currency for any visiting team.

Kotoko, so adventurous this season, failed to turn up at the party, but two second-half missed chances from Emmanuel Gyamfi ultimately denied them a victory they would barely have deserved.

Chelsea pressured kotoko and were denied the first goal by a timely tackle by defender Ahmed Adams before goalkeeper Felix Annan made a couple of nice saves to ensure the first half ended barren.

The home fans were screaming for the home team to take the game to Kotok, but Zdravko’s Red shirts were first to every ball.

Kotoko’s Emmanuel Gyamfi was adjudged man of the match.
