Massive turn out for Red Bull/YAZZ walk

Accra, March 12, GNA - Hundreds of health conscious people flooded the principal streets of Accra to celebrate "life" as they joined in a 20-kilometre Second Red Bull/YAZZ fitness walk just to improve their heartbeat on Saturday.

Led by Mr. William O. Boafo, Deputy Minister of Defence and Mr. Joseph Ade Coker, a former Vice Chairman of the Ghana Football Association, the agile participants walked from the Osekan Beach at the High Street in Accra through Adabraka, Kaneshie, Mataheko to the Maximum Gym and Fitness Centre at Dansoman, in a programme littered with unforgettable achievements.

More than 34 organizations, including Churches and Keep Fit Clubs from all corners of the capital, walked and jogged, while a lot more got themselves drenched in lively brass band music as the organizers, the Maximum Gym, tried to transport the discipline from the periphery to the limelight.

The over 600 people dressed in a branded T-Shirt provided for by the two main sponsors - Red Bull and Yazz Soap and tooth paste - were taken through a pre-walk aerobics at the Osekan Beach before the "big show."

And as they walked, the number kept increasing, some attracted by the intermittent refreshment provided for by Red Bull Energy drink and Voltic Mineral water and perhaps the music. Mr. William O. Boafo told a mini durbar after the exercise that it was important that such programmes were organized frequently nation-wide to improve on the health of the labour force and to cut down on hospital bills.

Benco Hospitex, local manufacturers of hospital equipment presented a fully stocked modern first-aid box worth 10 million cedis to the Gym and struck a deal to work in close collaboration to improve the health needs of the people. Other sponsors of the endurance walk, which also marked Ghana's 49th Independence Day were Capital 02 and Prospective Marketing. 12 March 06
