Marshalls seal qualification to UPAC quarterfinals

Marshalls University College has atoned for last year’s disappointment in the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship by progressing to the quarterfinals in this year’s competition.

Marshalls beat KAAF University College 30-22 to win its second game in two outings in Zone 3 of the 2019 competition played earlier today at the Regent University College of Science and Technology.

The win takes them to the zone’s top spot at the expense of KAAF and Host institution Regent University and automatic progression to the knockout phase of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball competition.

Like its first win, a 34-28 result over Regent, Marshalls had a slow start falling behind a barrage of three point shots from KAAF.

However, Marshalls University prodded and found joy inside the paint to gradually chip away KAAF’s lead and take the lead in the second quarter.

KAAF got hot from the three point line early in the fourth quarter and reduced its deficit to seven 21-28 but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Marshalls made a great bounce back from exiting early at the preliminary stage after a shock loss to Ghana Technology University College.
