Mamobi Community defeated Madina Community 2-1 in the finals of this year’s Sheikh Nuhu Sharabutu Ramadan Football Gala played at the Kotobabi Wembley in Accra on Saturday.

The competition, which was aimed at bringing the Zongo communities, saw Madidna, the defending champions taking the lead through an own goal by their opponents.

The defending champions threw everything into the game to increase the tally but tried as they did, they could not find the net till half time.

Mamobi however, rallied up in the second session and scored two quick goals through Desmond Abuga and Fuseini Iliasu in the 10th and 14th minutes respectively, to win the day for Mamobi.

On their way to the finals, Mamobi edged out Nungua 3-2 on penalties, and beat Alajo 2-1, while Madina eliminated Newtown by 3-2 and beat Ashalley Botwe 1-0.

Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, National Chief Iman presented the magnificent trophy to the champions and urged the communities to foster peace and unity for national development.

Mr Taminu Issah, Co-ordinator of the Gala commended the participants for their sportsmanship exhibited throughout the games.

He said plans were far advanced to make the competition a national affair.

The competition was sponsored by The Royal Bank with support from Ash Foam, Nasco Electronics Limited, Perla Mineral Water and McDan Group of Companies.

Mamobi's winger, Sulley Ibrahim who played for the Black Starlets won the Goal king with four goals whiles their goalkeeper Victor Washington grabbed the best gloves, skipper Desmond Abuga was awarded as the best player of the tournament.
