Columbus Crew FC captain, Jonathan Mensah believes that the MLS is back but the tournament will be different from the regular MLS competition.

The Major League Soccer has confirmed a new form of competition to replace the regular season due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The tournament commences on July 8 and ends on August 11 in Orlando.

The 26 teams will be split into six groups based on their conference, with one group containing six teams and five containing four teams. Each team will play three group stage matches, and the results will count toward the 2020 MLS regular season standings.

“Yeah, there’s a difference. Playing in the regular season is totally different from playing in a tournament like we’re going to do," Mensah told Columbuscrewsc.com.

"You need more rest, you need to take it game-after-game, and we will just prepare that way and go into the tournament strong."

Columbus Crew has been paired alongside Atlanta United, New York Red Bulls, and FC Cincinnati in Group E.

Major League Soccer has been suspended since mid-March following the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
