Live Updates: Nigeria vs South Africa (AFCON Quarterfinals)

The first quarterfinal game has been decided and it’s Senegal who are through to the semi-final.

Nigeria versus South Africa is our last game for the day and it promises to be a captivating encounter between two rivals.

The Bafana Bafana recorded the biggest shock of the tournament after spiritedly defeating hosts, Egypt in the Last 16 stage.

The Super Eagles’ road to this stage was not easy either, they had to come back from a goal down to beat defending champions Cameroon 3-2.

Confidence is high in both camps and the two teams will head into the game being aware of threats they each pose to each other. Nigeria have beaten South Africa 6 times in 15 games while the Bafana are just one win away from drawing level.

A semi-final place is at stake and both teams will test the wit and capacity of each side to withstand pressure.

Odion Ighalo is in a great vein of form and has scored three goals so far in the competition. His precision in front of goal will be vital in Nigeria’s hunt for a fourth AFCON title.

South Africa have not tasted a defeat in their last five games with Nigeria and will have to put up a similar performance like they did against Egypt if they are to walk out of this game with something other than a defeat.
