Live Updates: Hearts of Oak vs Asante Kotoko

It’s a battle for supremacy, 3 points and bragging rights today as Hearts of Oak host their arch rivals Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in match day six of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League.

Both clubs have hard a difficult start to the season loosing two consecutive games in their first 5 matches.

The Phobians have managed 2 wins, 2 defeats and a draw since the start of the league. However in their last three games, Hearts of Oak much resilience and grit in their games coming from a goal down to defeat Liberty Porfessionals at Dansoman last week.

The Porcupines were also victorious in their last game against Ebusua Dwarfs as 16-year-old Matthew Cudjoe and Richard Arthur scored two late goals. It was a good comeback to break the jinx of two consecutive defeats in the league after winning two of their opening games.

The two clubs have slugged it out in 106 games since their first game in 1958. The Oaks and the Porcupines have shared 35 wins between them with 36 coming by way of draws.

The last two recent games between the clubs have seen Kotoko enjoy victories in the GFA Normalisation Committee Special Competition Tier 1 semi-finals where they defeated Hearts of Oak on penalties. There was another victory in the Presidents Cup for Maxwell Konadu’s charges as they beat the Phobians 2-1 in Kumasi.

Today’s game will be a battle in midfield as Hearts of Oak’s Emmanue Nettey will be on the lips on many. The midfielder joined the team on match day 3 and has since won the toast of many supporters. In attack, the Phobians will rely on the likes of Joseph Esso, Kofi Kodzi, Bernard Arthur and their new boy Abednego Tetteh to torment the defense of the Porcupines.

However for Kotoko, captain Felix Annan will be expected to man the post as he returns to the team after a successful wedding last week. In midfield more will be required from Justice Blay as he does more of the tackles and onward passes. The midfielder has won two man of the match awards by far. The Porcupines will be looking forward to their new poster boy, Matthew Cudjoe who will add more flare and skills to the field of play in attack on the flanks.
