Liberty pip Meteors

Accra, Oct. 9, GNA - Premiership campaigners, Liberty Professionals pipped the national Olympic team, Black Meteors 1-0 in a friendly encounter at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Tuesday. Enoch Adu Kofi, midfielder of Black Starlets fame scored the only goal of the match on the stroke of full time from a goal- mouth scramble.

The match formed part of preparations by the Black Meteors for their Sunday crucial Beijing 2008 Olympic qualifier against the Amaglug-glug of South Africa.

The "Scientific Soccer lads" who had been preparing for the 2007 Onetouch Premiership on the quiet gave the locally assembled squad of Meteors a good run for their moneys' worth with their cohesive midfield play.

The brightest chance of the balanced first half fell to Meteors' Abraham Kudemor in the 22nd minute but he shot wide with the Liberty goalie, Patrick Antwi at his mercy after he was put through by hardworking Addoquaye Addo, who remained a thorn in the flesh of the defence of the Premiership side.

Both sides effected series of substitutions during the second half but it was the Dansoman-based side who laughed last as Adu slotted home the match winner from a goal-mouth action on the stroke of full time. The Meteors are expected to round up their preparations with another friendly encounter against a yet to be named opponent on Thursday.
