Liberia President George Weah to attend 43rd SWAG awards

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana, SWAG, have invited the President of Liberia to grace it's 43rd awards ceremony which would take place on April 28, 2018.

Speaking at the launch of the awards night at the MTN House in Accra, Kwabena Yeboah, President of the Association said the SWAG is working hard to invite Africa's only player to win the World Best player as the special guest on the night, after Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, graced the last edition.

According to the ace broadcaster, the awards is the most transparent, prestigious, distinguished and longest running without a break for the past 42 years.

He commended the past and current executives and members who have contributed to the awards.

The SWAG President added, the 43rd SWAG awards night has been fixed for April 28, 2018 when 49 nominees in 21 categories of 18 sports disciplines would be honoured.

He named some of the nominees for the Foreign Based Footballer of the year as Daniel Nii Adjei of TP Mazembe, Christian Atsu of New Castle, Boakye Yiadom of Red Star and Thomas Partey of Athletico Madrid.

Those contesting for the Best Local Footballer are Stephen Sarfo of Berekum Chelsea, Amos Frimpong of Asante Kotoko and Thomas Abbey of Accra Hearts of Oak.

Robert Kozue of the Corporate Affairs Department of MTN, the title sponsors tasked SWAG to come on board with innovative ideas that fall within their digital agenda.

He said more interest and excitement can be created with the use of social media platforms to expose the nominees and enhance the event.

He urged corporate Ghana to support sporting activities.

The SWAG awards is also supported by partners like CDH, Goil, ATL, Ferro Phones, StarTimes and Activa Insurance.
