Let’s say no to hooliganism in football – Frank Nelson

Hearts of Oak Board member, Frank Nwokolo Nelson has called on fans of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) to learn to comport themselves when they visit league centers.

Football in Ghana has seen pockets of violence at league centers in both the Premier League and the second tier (GN Bank Division One League) with recent bans on Hearts of Oak and Bibiani Gold Stars as well as cash fines of Ghc12,000 and Ghc15,000 respectively.

Mr Nelson, a former member of Hearts of Oak supporters wing, the National Chapters Committee (NCC) has called on all fans to learn from Hearts’ ban and abstain from hooliganism when they visit league centers either home or away.

“let’s continue to educate fans of the game to understand that football is meant to promote peace and unity as well as make us happy. So let us not create an environment where people will start fighting and throwing objects onto the field of play as any of such might fall victim
to crowd violence,” he said.

“Fans, whether home or away should understand that defeat is not the end of the world and as such supporters should comport themselves and enjoy the beautiful game – football as a well organised match is pleasing to the eye but violence keeps fans away from the stadium,” he added.
