Let's go Red, Gold, Green - Agyenim-Boateng

Accra, May 20, GNA - The Ministry of Information has appealed to all Ghanaians and foreigners resident in Ghana to come out boldly on Friday, May 21, in their red, gold and green outfits "as Ghana gets ready for the World Cup 2010."

A statement issued in Accra on Thursday and signed by Deputy Minister, James Agyenim-Boateng said "Football always provides us a fine opportunity to unite for one cause and government believes there can be no better time than now to showcase our national identity to the world and give meaning to our national colours".

It urged Chief Executives, Managing Directors and Head of Departments to encourage and permit their workers to feel free to wear their Black Stars replica jerseys and anything red, gold, green to work on Fridays starting from Friday May 21, 2010.

"The Ministry of Information expects that all government ministries and agencies will fly the national flag high, while important locations like our airports and border posts will also be proudly draped in the national colours to welcome all visitors into Ghana," Mr Agyenim-Boateng said. "Our cars, offices, homes and other locations must hoist the national flag and when the culture sips in, we believe that many motorists after the tournament will display the Ghana flag rather than flags of other nations in their cars," the statement added.

The statement said government expected massive support and cheers for the senior national team, the Black Stars, as they prepared to conquer the world on African soil.

"The little we can all do as Ghanaians is to wake up to the call and paint Ghana red, gold, green every Friday between now and the end of the World Cup. This certainly will be a major boost for the morale of our senior national football team," the statement said.
