Chief Executive Officer of AshantiGold Sporting Club, Cudjoe Fianoo has said that the home ground of the club is ready to host the preliminary stages of the CAF Champions League.
Some Executive Committee members Confederation of Africa Football team were in Ghana over the weekend to inspect the facility ahead of their upcoming match against Algerian side, MO Bejaia on February 14.
With the facility lacking very important facilities required by CAF to host its competitions, there were fears that AshGold may have to look elsewhere to host the match and subsequent matches in the competition.
But Cudjoe Fianoo says the facility is ready to host the preliminary phase of the champions league without any issues.
He added that they will have to fix major centers to meet CAF requirements should they qualify to the group stages.
“There’s one thing we have to look at: there are conditions to meet when you’re playing the preliminaries and there are conditions that you have to meet when you’re playing in the group stages,” Cudjoe Fianoo told Accra-based radio station, Joy FM.
“For now, we are playing in the preliminaries and I can tell you that the stadium is ready to host [MO] Bejaia. It when we make it to the group stages that we’ll require additional things to meet the standard [required by CAF].
“We will have to fix the media centre, the doping centre, the security post and the first aid post, that will make the stadium acceptable for group matches because the matches are going to be beamed live and the media will be there always.
“For now, we can host matches without any issues,” He said.
AshGold won the ticket to represent Ghana in the Champions League after the Ghana Premier League title last season.
