Legon Health Club inaugurated

Accra, Sept. 24, GNA-The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports is developing a policy to grant scholarship for students as a way of encouraging them to take active interest in sports. Papa Owusu Ankomah, the sector Minister, announced this at the inauguration of the Legon University Teachers Association of Ghana Health Club (LUHC) at Legon near Accra on Saturday.

The Club, under the chairmanship of Dr. F.K. E. Nunoo, aims at providing recognition and publicity to the club as well as educating its members and the general public on the benefits of taking regular physical exercises and health checks.

Papa Ankomah said sports play a very important role in the socio- economic development of a nation and that everything possible must be done to encourage the citizenry to get involved. Sports, the Minister said, was imperative for people to keep healthy and fit

He said the Ministry would attach trainers to all the various keep fit clubs in the country and offer them the necessary assistance. Papa Ankomah charged the University of Ghana authorities to give the club every encouragement so that more people would join it. Professor Kwesi Yankah, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University said sports is an integral part of intellectual development. Professor Yankah congratulated Mr J.K. Aduakwa, Chairman of National Sports for All Association Ghana (NASFAAG), for his immense contribution towards sports development in the university and that one of the streets in the campus had been named after him. He praised the club for their foresight and called on all to join it.
