League title race not over for Kotoko - Eric Donkor

Deputy captain of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Eric Donkor, says their quest to win this year’s Ghana Premier League title is not over despite their current fourth position on the league table.

Last Sunday, Kotoko were unable to move up the log after being held to a 1-1 draw by their arch-rival Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium, making their title aspiration a difficult task given the effort of the teams ahead of them on the log.

However, Donkor insists Kotoko are in the race for the title and though the unfortunate accident may have affected them physically for a while, it has not dampened their hope.

“Of course, the accident affected us but difficult as it may seem, we have put that behind us and are determined to forge ahead and win the title, which has been our objective the whole season,” Donkor told the Graphic Sports in an interview.

He therefore, called on the teeming fans of the club to continue to offer their unflinching support to the players and technical team “in this difficult times”.

“I would like to appeal to our fans to continue to stand by us both physically and spiritually in this difficult period. They should continue to pray for the team and we would also do our best for the club” he said.

Sharing his thoughts on last Sunday’s Super Clash, Donkor admitted it was a difficult game and the final result was a fair reflection of proceedings and the two sides took turns to dominate the two halves.

He further described their impending outstanding league match against WAFA at the Sogakope Park as another difficult encounter, but expressed optimism about their chances stressing “the task was surmountable.”
