League To Break After Third Week

When the much-delayed Premier League takes off this weekend, it will see just three matches and take a month?s break.

Two matches will be honoured on Wednesday, June 9, and Sunday, June 13 after Sunday?s opening games of the Special League. The break is to pave way for the Black Stars home game with South Africa on Sunday, June 20, and an away encounter with Uganda on Sunday, July 4 in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers.

In between the two games, King Faisal and Asante Kotoko ? best sides in the Coca-Cola Top 4 tournament ? will travel for the special four-club tournament in South Africa.

The Professional League Board (PLB), organisers of the Premier League, arrived at the decision at a meeting last Monday following the proposal by the clubs for a start of the league on Sunday.

The clubs at their meeting last week adopted a proposal to push for a start of the league on Sunday. The two-zone league was originally programmed to start on May 2 but a court action by a supposed fan of relegated Prestea Mine Stars resulted in an injunction being placed on the start of the competition.

The action has since been dismissed by the Sekondi High Court after the club declined any interest in the case.

In the original programme, next Sunday would have featured the third week games
