Lawyer John Debrah voted Ghana’s Referees Association Chairman

The Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) on Saturday, elected it’s National Executives Elections at at the Conference Room of the Headquarters of the Ghana Football Association in Accra.

Lawyer John Bismarck Debrah was voted as the new Chairman for the Association when he beat his compatriot, Alex Quartey by 32 votes to 25.

Confirming his desire to work, Referee Debrah expressed his appreciation to all those who voted for him during the elections.

“I would like to thank all those who voted for me and I believe the people voted for me because they saw the good works I did as an acting Chairman, ”Joe Debrah told the media.

Lawyer Debrah would be hoping to raise the bar in Ghana’s officiating as the profession has become a subject of ridicule in recent times considering the poor performance of referees.

Bismark Joe Debrah former vice chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana unseated Retired referee Alex Quartey who has headed the association over ten years.

The retired police officer addressing the media after the National executive elections promised to work hard with his new executives to address the negative perception of the general public against Ghanaian referees.

“A lot of people over the years have tagged our officiating referees as corrupt and unfair and my administration and I will work very hard to clear all this misconception. We have very competent officials in the country”, he added.

Other officials who were elected to work in the new administration are; Mr. George Saijah – National Vice chairman, Mr. Joseph Ayita Mensah – General Secretary, Mr. Kwao Sampson – Deputy General Secretary, Mr. Thomas M. Nunoo – National Treasurer, Mr. Joseph Wellington – National Instructor (Technical), Mr. Richard Thomas Attifu – Deputy National Instructor (Technical), Mr. Anthony Tetteh-Opai – National Instructor (Fitness), Mr. Isaac Effah Tetteh – Deputy National Instructor (Fitness)
