Lawson knocked out by Bizier

Ghanaian Welterweight boxer Frederick Lawson suffered his first defeat in his professional career on Saturday night in an IBF welterweight title eliminator at the Miccosukee Resort and Gaming in Miami, Florida.

Lawson, who until Saturday had a perfect record, was stopped in the 10th round by Kevin Bizier from Canada.

The Ghanaian’s corner stopped the bout after suspecting their boxer’s jaw might have been broken.

Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) was in control of the bout and landed some powerful punches that hurt Lawson (24-1, 20 KOs), who could not find his rhythm on the night.

Things got worse for the Ghanaian in the fifth round when a powerful right jab sent him to the canvas.

Lawson never recovered from the fall and after some punishment in round 10, his trainer, Abel Sanchez threw in the towel.

Bizier now becomes the mandatory challenger for IBF champion Kell Brook.
