Laryea Kingston chooses Essien over Partey

Former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston has waded into the ongoing debate about who is better between Thomas Partey and Michael Essien.

Kingston has aired his views and prefers his former teammate Essien to Atletico Madrid’s Partey.

A debate has been generated on Twitter about the two midfielders who share several football attributes.

Michael Essien was largely a dominant midfielder at club sides Lyon, Chelsea and to some extent Real Madrid where he had a loan stint. His versatility was never in question as he also flourished in roles at Center Back and right back. He was generally known for his excellent tough tackling and explosiveness in the middle of the park.

Essien was denied such majestic performances for Ghana in the long term as his career was blighted by injuries.

Thomas Partey is slightly different as he possesses mesmeric ball winning abilities and has composure and charisma while in possession of the ball. His goal scoring abilities is never in question as he’s been a regular scorer for both club and country.

Laryea Kinsgton who appeared as a guest on the Joy Sports Link to have his take on the debate and the former Hearts of Oak winger opted for Essien.

“They [Partey and Essien] all have their strengths and weaknesses but I will say I was privileged to play alongside Michael Essien. We all know the work he did at Chelsea. Partey has done well and is still doing well but Essien was something else”, Kingston stated.
