Inter Allies striker Samuel Mensah Konney was the toast of fans at the La town park last Monday after he converted the last penalty kick to enable hosts, La beat Nungua 4-3 to qualify for the finals of the 2017 McDan Ga Adangbe Unity Football Cup.

The match which ended 0-0 after 90 minutes attracted a lot of fans including dignitaries from various institutions around the park and traditional leaders.

La were the hot favourites and as hosts parading top stars from the Ghana Premier League, all the fans expected them to win, however, they did not have it easy as the boys from Nungua were well prepared and gave off their best, but luck was not on their side.

After the match Mensah Konney told the media he was happy to grab the winner and looking forward to win the trophy and fantastic prizes at stake. He noted that coming this far to the final is not easy because all the teams prepared very well and all the communities have very good players, most of who qualify to play for the national teams. He was also happy as they rehearsed for the penalty kicks, and they won.

He commended the organisers for coming up with the tournament that is bringing the people of Accra together and offering an opportunity for players to know themselves better.

The next semifinal between Teshie and Tema which is going to be a cracker comes off on Monday November 27 at the same venue, before the grand final on December 3.

At stake for the winner is a giant trophy, cash prize and the bragging rights.

All outstanding players and fans are going to be rewarded, including the media who have propagated the unity message.
