LOC to unveil highlights of CAN 2008 blue print

Accra, July 7, GNA 96 The Ghana CAN 2008 Local Organising Committee, (LOC) will on July 28, unveil the blueprint for the organisation of the 26th Africa Nations Football Tournament as the biggest soccer fiesta on the continent.

The event to be hosted at Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region, is one of the four venues for the competition, and will be used to make public the preparations so far made by the LOC as well as unveil the time table leading to the main event in January 2008. A statement issued from the secretariat of the LOC copied to the GNA Sports said the event will also witness the introduction of the advertising campaign strategy for the competition and the launching of a newsletter 93Passions=94, which will serve as the official mouthpiece of the LOC as well as the CAN 2008. According to the statement, the selection of Sekondi-Takoradi as venue for the launching is part of the LOC's overall plan to spread events to all the four venues, so as to create the expected atmosphere of the tournament to all people who will be relied upon to contribute to its success.

Dr Kofi Amoah, Chairman of the LOC described the event as the =93implementation of a vision to usher Ghanaians into a needed renaissance that shall give birth to that shining and a clean Ghana ready to take its place in the 21st century=94. =93This is an exercise to showcase our nation to the world and put it in the best possible light=94. Dr Amoah said. He said having returned from the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, the LOC had learned enough lessons to be able to customise a world class tournament that may be watched by over 4.5 billion persons all over the world.

The LOC Chairman said the outfit recognises the collaboration and trust between the private and public sector that ensured the winning of the bid by Ghana to host the event and called for the total support and partnership of the media, political and business leaders as well as the entire citizenry to lend the same support to the organisation of the event.

"We shall infuse the lessons learned in Germany to rise to the height of competitions anywhere else, both for great personal integrity and for exceptional capabilities.=94 The LOC Chairman added.
